Annual VCE Vblock 300 FX Matrix Upgrade
Aug 2013, Aug 2014 & Aug 2015
In order to be eligible for continued support coverage, VCE requires a Vblock to conform to a matrix of software/firmware versions for all hardware & software within a Vblock. These devices include the Cisco 2x Nexus 5548, 2x 9148, 2x 3560X, 2x 1000V, 2x UCS 6140, 10x B200, 1x C200, EMC VNX 5500 and VMware/vCenter/VUM. For the last 2 years I have been tasked to perform these updates over 1 weekend at the end of summer school and prior to the beginning of the new year. Aug. 2013 we progressed to matrix revision 3.5.8, Aug. 2014 we continued to matrix revision 4.5.4 & Aug. 2015 we upgraded to matrix release 4.5.14.

Cisco Emergency Responder Zone Updates
in May 2015
Due to renovations, switch exchanges and changes over time; our ER information in Call Manager has degraded and requires an update. Rather than visiting over 1,300 Cisco VoIP phones, I port mapped every single switch port throughout the district (via SNMP) which included CDP information, extracted information from Call Manager including Phone + Extensions and linked these details to our employee records to relate the primary office location. Once all gathered, I could relate the Device Name to Switch Port to the Room assignment and knocked out 2/3rd of the phones. The remaining we only need to identify the office location, switch information was already captured.

AirPlay / AirPrint Solutions
In Feb. 2015
As we expanded our 1:1 iPad program this year to all students at the district, a growing need for a better projection and printing solution via the iPads was growing. After the introduction of iOS 8, peer to peer AirPlay became available offering iPad 4 & Airs the option to discover nearby AppleTVs via Bluetooth and connect via an adhoc wireless network between the AppleTV and the iPad completely off our network. AirPrint improved greatly after I reconfigured Mac Minis with my custom method for artificially creating the AirPrint advertisements to printers shared on the Mac Minis eliminating the need for third party AirPrint options.

Exchange 90 Cisco 3560G to 3560X Switches
Nov. 2014 to Feb. 2015
Because of a flaw experienced with the 3560G line of Cisco switches, Cisco approved a district-wide exchange swapping every single 3560G switch (saving $500,000+) with a 3560X replacement. The advantage of these newer switches permit us PoE across all 48 ports, PoE+, modular power (offering the option of redundant power) and modular uplink ports supporting 10GB. During this exchange, we proactively swapped out older 10/100 switches with a 3560X making the district universally the same model, re-cabled the IDFs with labeled CAT6a Ethernet and deployed Tripp Lite UPSs supporting all switches for upwards of 30 minutes uptime during a power loss.

Migrate DC, CA, NPS, WSUS, DHCP, File & Print from Windows 2008 to 2012 R2
In Aug. 2014
Part of this summer’s projects, I decided to migrate our main servers from Windows 2008 to Windows 2012 R2. This included 3 Domain Controllers with services like Active Directory, Certificate Authority, NPS (RADIUS for Wireless and VPN), WSUS and DHCP backed up and moved over to freshly built 2012 R2 systems. Additionally, I rebuilt a print and 2 file servers also as 2012 R2.

Migrate to Avamar Gen4 + Data Domain
In Aug. 2014
Due to the growing requirements of our backup environment, we transitioned our Avamar Gen3 with 6 data nodes over to a Avamar Gen4 + Data Domain environment. By doing so we gained many new features, one in particular allowing us to start up a VM directly within Data Domain and live transition it over to the appropriate cluster.

Migrate to a VCE Vblock 300 FX
In Aug 2012
Worked with consultants to migrate our existing 5 Dell R710 VMware cluster/EMC CX4-120 to a Vblock 300 FX. During this transition, I also upgraded our Exchange environment from 2007 to 2010, had our Avamar grid upgraded to 6.1.0-402, worked with consultants to upgrade and migrate our physical Cisco VoIP Call Manager servers over to a virtualized environment integrated in a 2 blade cluster in the Vblock and worked together with consultants to build our VDI infrastructure also integrated into a 2 blade cluster in the Vblock. Finally, transitioned the existing 5 Dell R710/EMC CX4-120 to our Northfield campus building a 3 server cluster to host our Northfield servers and development environment with the remaining 2 servers to act as the VDI infrastructure for our Northfield campus.

Cisco VoIP Migration
Jun 2008 to Dec 2008
Migrate phone system to a VoIP Cisco solution. My role involved development of a web based solution for entry of all port assignments campus wide. This information was then exported out in a format for import to our Cisco Call Manager; Cisco Unity and ER systems. We have since virtualized our Cisco Unity system.
